The Youth Matters Program is designed to be an outlet for youth and teens who may need additional support, structure, guidance, mentorship, and love. We also offer mentorship and leadership opportunities through our collaborative partnerships.
Teach, Empower, Affirm, Mentor: Building relationships in the community, in the school system, with the families of the students attending the program as well as potential students attending the program is very important. We are here to help teach youth and teens how to adapt to different circumstances and situations by thinking first before reacting. We tackle the underlying issues of bullying. We know that bullying comes in many different forms so we strive to provide a bully free environment. We uplift and empower the youth and teens in a number of different ways. We teach them that we all need help and to lift as you climb. Nobody ever makes it on his or her own. It takes a team and with our mentoring program, we believe in teamwork, educating one another and character building; through tutoring, mentoring/mentorship opportunities, community outreach, and educational opportunities in and outside of the classroom setting. The Youth Matters Program is designed to be an outlet for youth and teens who may need additional support, structure, guidance, mentorship, and love. We are pleased to help serve the community, our partnering schools, and families to provide a mentoring program where students get an opportunity to go on college campus tours, attend events, participate in community events, receive tutoring and homework support, and group mentoring as well as one on one mentor support. The Youth Matters Program is a three tier program
Tier One: Education- This is where we follow the student's academic performance. We offer tutoring sessions and homework support as needed. We gain relationships with our partnering schools, teachers, guidance counselors, and all school officials to provide all the resources needed to help each student succeed academically. We keep a log of progress reports and report cards. We will work with the partnering school to get missed homework assignments. We want all of our students to succeed inside the classroom as well as outside of the classroom. The one thing nobody can take away from you is the knowledge you put in your head. Learning is something you do 365 and we are here to encourage, inspire, motivate, and mentor the youth and teens.
Tier Two: Discussion Groups- We meet two times a week to discuss a vast variety of different topics that the students and leaders pick. We like to call this "Hot Topic". Hot Topic was developed to engage the students in conversations about what's going on in the world around them. We talk about sports, entertainment, politics, educational goals, college awareness and much more.
Tier Three: Life Changing Events- This is where we take students out of their comfort zone by going on different outings and trips. We will be attending college tours(HBCUs and traditional colleges and universities). Students will be going to different sporting events(basketball games, football games, baseball games, etc.). We will be attending different museums and art exhibits as well as going to different arcade venues to have a little fun too. This is an opportunity to get the students engaged in things other than video games and causing trouble in and outside of the classroom and the community.
is powered by The Youth Matters Program to offer mentoring on a 1 on 1 level as well as mentorship in a group setting. This initiative was launched to tackle a vast variety of challenges and issues within our Youth Matters community.
Mentors: We have equipped our mentors with the knowledge to help serve our students in a variety of ways.
We are always looking for new mentors from the community to pour back into the youth and teens that come to our program daily.
Mentees: We provide 1 one 1 and group support to help with academic challenges, social and emotional challenges, and we want to always show up as trusted adults in your student's life. Feel free to reach out to our wonderful staff about the Mentorship Matters application if you or your guardian feels like you need some additional support
